About me
I’m Moaz Elgabry, a colourist with a lifelong passion for the art and science of colour. My journey began in my teens, sparked by a fascination with design, photography, and image editing. Although I didn’t have access to advanced tools early on, my curiosity kept me exploring and refining my understanding of visuals, setting the stage for a career in storytelling through colour.
After graduating, I worked for the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on their project to support the Grand Egyptian Museum Conservation Center (GEMCC). As part of this landmark project, JICA dispatched many PhD-level experts from various fields to train the museum staff, and I had the opportunity to work closely with them for over seven years. This experience immersed me in advanced approaches to documentation, pigment analysis, and exhibition design using digital technology. I worked across diverse output mediums like video walls, projectors, and emerging display technologies, including AR and XR. This gave me a deep understanding of how colour behaves across different environments, how perception shifts based on context, and how to engineer visuals to maintain their impact regardless of medium.
These experiences taught me that the craft of colour is not just about manipulating tones on a screen—it’s about crafting an experience that speaks to audiences on multiple levels. Whether it’s the physics of light, the colourimetric details, or the psychological impact, I strive to bring an integrated approach to each project. This helped me understand that achieving the best results requires more than precise pixel work; it involves creating imagery that reads clearly, draws viewers in, and enhances immersion.
As I transitioned into the filmmaking industry, these foundations gave me a unique approach to colour. While many in the field rely on standard tools, I explore custom methods to push beyond conventional aesthetics, ensuring every frame resonates on multiple levels. By adapting my craft to different display technologies and using insights from both science and artistry, I am able to deliver visuals that truly serve the story.
My approach is rooted in collaboration and simplicity. I work closely with each director to protect and enhance their creative vision without adding unnecessary complexity. By merging technical expertise with artistic sensitivity, I create visuals that support your storytelling and leave a lasting impact.
My work is fueled by a love for my craft and a strong appreciation for the team behind the film.
Bringing Your Vision to Life
As a colourist, my role is to protect and elevate the creative vision of each project. Whether I’m fine-tuning the subtleties of a documentary or enhancing the vibrancy of a commercial piece, my focus is always on maximising the story’s visual potential. I blend technical precision with a deep understanding of the narrative, ensuring that every frame aligns with your vision.
Understanding Your Unique Voice
Each director has a distinct voice, and I take pride in understanding and adapting to that unique style. I bring a collaborative approach to every project, respecting your creative direction while helping your story come to life. From the nuanced tones of a short film to the bold colours of commercial work, my goal is to create visuals that truly reflect your vision.
A Passion for Colour Science
I am deeply committed to colour science as both my passion and my craft. I continuously study and refine my techniques, staying current with the latest advancements in grading technology to ensure each project benefits from the most effective processes. My aim is to provide a seamless, immersive visual experience that enhances your story and brings out its true essence.
